Week: August 29, 2011 - September 2, 2011 - 6th grade/8th grade Mathematics!!



6th Grade:  This Week: 
Monday: 1.(HW) Syllabus signed by you and family member.  2.(CW/HW) Three problems (prime factorization (given 8/26).
Tuesday:  Multiplication of fractions
Wednesday:  Division of fractions
Thursday:  Quiz: prime factorization
Friday: extension/reteach


8th Grade -This Week:   Students prepped for exploring the Real Number System by converting fractions and other numbers into decimals.  Students will distinguish between Natural numbers, Whole numbers, and Integers, as well as determine rational and irrational numbers.  Students also spent a considerable amount of time ordering numbers and placing numbers on a number line.  Students will create a human number line. 


Due Monday:  Problems 1 - 6 due (ordering numbers and plotting numbers) and The Real Number System activity (students are to place 35 numbers into the real number system's chart) - Students are identifying between rational and irrational numbers. Homework activities are pictured above.

Monday and Tuesday, students will work in pairs to place numbers (pictured above) on a student created number line.  Pair quiz - estimating radicals/classifying rational/irrational number.
Wednesday:  students will be given a number and will line themselves up to form a human number line.
First Quarter Project outline will be given.
Thursday:  Unit assessment:  Comparing and Order Real Numbers in a variety of forms.

Week 8.22.11 - 8.26.11 - Sixth Grade and Eighth Grade

6th Grade:  This Week:  exploration in the world of Prime Factorization and Multiplying Fractions.  Syllabus' were passed out on Friday, 8.26.11.  Syllabi due on Monday, 8.29.11 - copies in Spanish will be provided.  These three problems also due on Monday.

MathMattersWeek: August 15 - August 19, 2011

Monday:  Last day of our 'getting to know you' activity:  1. students will make a list of words or phrases that they like hearing when learning math (individual, small group share out, whole group share out).  2. students will make a list of words or phrases that they do not like hearing when learning math (individual, small group share out, whole group share out).

Tuesday:  Basic skills assessment


Wednesday: basic math skills needs:  adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions.  converting percents into decimals and fractions.


Thursday:  Ms. LiBosha will be at a district meeting from 1:30 - 3:30pm.  Rules procedures, and expectations are to be followed.

Friday:  Continue converting between fractions, decimals, and percents.
